報告摘要:Delamination and reinforcement corrosion are two major deterioration problems for reinforced concrete (RC) bridge decks. Chain drag testing is a common practice for bridge deck evaluation owing to its low cost and ease of use. However, this method is subjective, and result interpretation depends on the experience of the operators. Traffic noise affects the test speed and accuracy of results. We proposed and developed an automated acoustic scanning system to detect delaminations in concrete structures, including bridge decks. The system consists of an array of ball-chain impactors, a noncontact MEMS microphone sensor array, multi-channel data acquisition device, RTK GPS positioning system, and signal processing schemes. The system enables rapid evaluation of bridge decks and delamination images will be generated immediately after scanning.
Ground Penetration RADAR (GPR) is able to penetrate large depth in concrete and can be used to evaluate rebar corrosion and concrete deterioration in bridge decks, even on decks with asphalt overlays. Acoustic and GPR scans provide complementary information about bridge deck conditions. Combination of these two methods will provide more efficient and comprehensive in-situ evaluation of reinforced concrete bridge decks than a single NDT method can offer.
